Joy Karol Wolfe; The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art: NY, NY. B.F.A. 1990. The Ayurvedic Institute, Ayurvedic Practitioner (AP); Albuquerque, NM 2020-22. C-IAYT, Certified Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
With over 30 years of experience, Joy has been a certified International Association Yoga Therapist, since 2017. Back in 1991, Jane Wolfe (Joy’s mother), got her involved in Yoga in NYC. Joy took her first Yoga teacher training back in 1992 with Erich Schiffman and Rod Stryker at Yogaworks in Santa Monica, CA. A few years later, she was certified through Ana Forrest’s training at Forrest Yoga. Joy has been truly fortunate to have been trained by many of the ‘greats’ such as Tim Feldman, Alan Finger, Sharon Gannon, Julie Gudmestad, David Life, Kino McGregor, and David Miliotis. Each has brought a different depth to a facet of Joy’s knowledge and yoga journey.
Joy opened Prananda Yoga (yes, spelled differently, see Home Page) in Portland, Oregon in 2003. For 6 years, Prananda flourished with a fun, supportive, and close knit community of amazing students and incredibly knowledgeable and talented instructors. She taught numerous teacher trainings during this time and many of those instructors are still teaching yoga across the country with a thriving following.
Her classes are especially focused on alignment and giving modifications or advancements to individualize the practice for each student. Her background of teaching Anatomy and Physiology at the Massage School of Santa Monica gives her that advantage to detail.
Joy graduated from Dr. David Frawley’s 300 hr. Ayurvedic Healing Course, then from The Ayurvedic Institute in 2021 (under Dr. Vasant Lad’s tutelage) as an Ayurvedic Consultant and completed the second year, graduating as an Ayurvedic Practitioner in 2022.
As of 2025; Dunnellon, FL is Joy’s new home. You can find her hanging out with her furbabies on any given day, taking further Herbology and Vedic courses, painting, reading, writing, or enjoying Rainbow River/Springs.
Joy is a true believer that Ayurveda and Yoga are for EVERY body and that with steady practice, these ancient healing arts can heal the world through their beautiful and profound simplicity. She creates a safe atmosphere, whether you’ve been doing yoga/practicing Ayurveda for decades or are a tentative newbie. She prides herself in translating these Eastern modalities in a clear and non-intimidating manner.
